Senideak-Gureak

Senideak-Gureak is a non-governmental association founded by relatives of Basque political prisoners. Ten of them were in Dublin from the 7th to the 14th of December, on a hunger-strike. They also met different political groups (FF. FG, Sinn Fein, Green Party...) and non-political groups like Amnesty International and gave information to journalists in a press conference and also to the visitors to the Franciscan Friary (Merchants Quay) - their hosts for the week - where they were carrying out their hunger-strike.

The policies that the Spanish government applies to Basque political prisoners brought them to the European summit. Although political prisoners are legally considered as common prisoners and have the same rights, all Basque prisoners are staying in jails outside the Basque country and are kept in jail after they have served 3/4 of their sentence. The Spanish government is also violating prisoners' fundamental rights through provocation and torture. They are not allowed to speak in Basque, participate in sport or continue their studies . Medical attention is almost non-existent . Transfers from one jail to another, from one block to another, are frequent and constant.
