The people of Diez de Abril

The pictures below are from the Zapatista base community of Diez de Abril in Chiapas, Mexico. The Irish Mexico Group has had a peace camp there since December 1996. The faces of local adults who live in the community have been obscured in these photos due to the continued government repression and death squad assassinations occurring in Chiapas.

Returning from gathering wood, the community has almost no electricity so wood is used for all cooking, the longer pieces may be for fence posts.
