Zapatista Army of National Liberation. Mexico.
January 10, 2001.

To National and International Civil Society:

Brothers and Sisters:

We wish to inform you that, on this January 12, 2001, zapatista support bases will be holding a peaceful demonstration in the City of San Cristo'bal de Las Casas, Chiapas.

In addition to demanding the fulfillment of the 3 signals demanded of the federal government, the purpose of this march will also be to give our regards to civil society which has been mobilizing, for seven years, so that peace with justice and dignity might be a reality for the Indian peoples of Mexico.

We zapatistas believe that, with the mobilization of the people, it will be possible to build a country in which color, language and culture, no matter what they might be, will not mean superiority or inferiority between one and the other. That is why we remember this day with joy, and we shall do so with this march.

Vale. Salud, and may the ears that were opened 7 years ago never be closed.

>From the mountains of the Mexican Southeast.
